Brian David Barden (born April 2, 1981 in Templeton, California) is a Major League Baseball infielder who is currently in the Florida Marlins organization. He has played as a second baseman, third baseman, and shortstop.

He went to St. Pius X Elementary School, the same elementary school as former teammate Carlos Quentin, but was one grade ahead.[citation needed]

Barden attended Oregon State University.

[edit] Professional career

Barden was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the sixth round of the 2002 Major League Baseball Draft. He made his major league debut with the Diamonbacks, but was later signed off waivers by St. Louis.[1][2]

Barden was batting .295 with nine home runs and 35 RBI for the Cardinals' Triple-A Pacific Coast League affiliate, the Memphis Redbirds, when his season was ended as the result of being named to the 2008 USA Olympic Baseball Team.[3]

On May 5, 2009, he was named NL Rookie of the Month for April. In October 2009 Barden Was Granted Free Agency.[4]

On December 14, 2009, Barden signed a minor league contract with the Florida Marlins.
