Brahma temple (Hindi: ब्रह्मा मंदिर) is a Hindu temple situated at Pushkar in Rajasthan in India. The temple is dedicated to Lord Brahma, Hindu God of Creation, and is said to be one of very few existing temples dedicated to Lord Brahma in India.

This temple, built with marble, is decorated with silver coins, and there is a silver turtle on the floor of the temple. The image of Brahmaji in Pushkar is in a seated Palthi position.

[edit] Legend

Legend also has it that the ancient lake, Pushkar Lake (Sarovar) had appeared miraculously, when a lotus fell from the hands of Lord Brahma and dropped into the this valley. In Hindu mythology, it is said that Lord Brahma wanted to perform a 'yagna' (self mutification) at the lake, and when his wife Savitri didn't attend, he married another woman on a whim. Savitri was upset by this and vowed that Brahma would not be worshiped anywhere else.

[edit] Festival

Once a year, on Kartik Poornima, the full moon night of the Hindu lunar month of Kartik (October - November), a religious festival is held in Brahma's honour. Thousands of pilgrims come to bathe in the holy Pushkar lake adjacent to the temple. The day also marks the famous Pushkar Camel Fair, held nearby.
