Border Crossings is an all-request, music-oriented radio show that is broadcast worldwide on the US government-operated Voice of America. It is currently hosted by Larry London. Past hosts include the program's founder, Judy Massa, and her successor, Ray Freeman. First airing in 1996,it is one of the longest-running music programs in VOA's history, surpassed only by the late Willis Conover's jazz program. Border Crossings features requests and dedications from listeners, sent by letter, e-mail and telephone, and offers interviews and live performances by top musical artists. Listeners can speak with Larry live on the air and participate in contests and giveaways. The hour-long program is broadcast on AM, FM, satellite, shortwave and the Internet, Mondays through Fridays, except for some US holidays when original pre-taped programs are programmed. The music on Border Crossings is almost entirely generated by listener requests, consisting mainly of rock, oldies, soul and country, although regional music is played when requested. Internet listeners may access archived shows (up to one week) on the VOA website.
