Boll Weevil was a chain of casual dining restaurants in San Diego, California, specializing in hamburgers. It was founded in 1966 by husband and wife Fred and Lorraine Halleman, and was known as the Home of the ½ Lb. Steerburger. The restaurants were decorated in a style reminiscent of the American Old West, and also feature pool tables and video games. Cold beer is also on the menu. On September 15, 2008, the restaurants were closed down due to Chapter 7 Bankruptcy. Next door to this original Boll Weevil once existed the Cotton Patch steak restaurant. The Hallemans launched their Boll Weevil line of hamburger joints from this once very popular and more upscale eatery, with "Boll Weevil" being a logical name for a smaller type of restaurant spawned from a "Cotton Patch." Both were on Midway Dr, near Barnett Ave, right off Pacific Coast Hiway. [edit] External links
