The Bolivia national football team played a total number of 24 international matches in the 1993 season under the guidance of newly appointed manager Xabier Azkargorta, including three games at the 1993 Copa América. In the previous year (1992) the squad did not play any match at all. Bolivia had a flying start in the 1994 FIFA World Cup qualification, trashing Venezuela 7-1 on 1993-07-18 in Puerto Ordaz. The match was followed by a 2-0 win over Brazil. For the first time in history the team qualified for the FIFA World Cup.
