The Bible Society in Australia exists to put the Bible into people's hands.[1] They were inaugurated at the instigation of Governor Lachlan Macquarie in Sydney on March 7, 1817. The first Australasian translation was a selection of Scripture selections in the Maori language printed in 1827.
[edit] MissionThe stated mission of the Bible Society of Australia is "to provide the Word of God to all people, in their own language, in a format they can use and at a price they can afford." [edit] ProjectsThey have projects[2] in around 90 different languages.[3]
[edit] Effect on Australian societyAs reported in the Christian Science Monitor, the Bible Society has some effect on 'secular Australia' with an article 'Strine slang Bible a hit in secular Australia' [7]. They were featured on a 1967 Australia Post stamp. [edit] See also[edit] References[edit] External links |
