Benito James Distefano (born January 23, 1962 in Brooklyn, New York) is a former professional baseball player who played in the Major Leagues primarily as a utility player from 1984, 1986, 1988-1989, and 1992. He was the last (to date) left-handed-throwing player to ever catch a major league game, catching in three separate games for the Pirates in 1989.[1]

On April 28, 1992, David Cone of the New York Mets brought a no-hitter into the eighth inning. Distefano broke it up with an infield hit, unintentionally grounding it very slowly down toward third base. The Mets remain as one of the few teams to never have a no-hitter in their history.

Distefano currently serves as the hitting coach of the West Michigan Whitecaps, a position he has held since 2007.[1]
