Benjamín Rojas Pessi (born 16 April 1985) is an Argentine actor and musician. He is perhaps the best known for his roles in Chiquititas, Rebelde Way, Floricienta and Alma Pirata, and as a member of Argentine band Erreway.
[edit] Personal and media lifeRojas was born on 16 April 1985 in La Plata, Argentina. He has three older siblings — two brothers and one sister. He attended the Gimnasia La Plata and played for its rugby team. However he quit his sports career due to his role in Chiquititas. Rojas is a fan of football and a passionate supporter of Club de Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata. He is fluent in Spanish and English. Rojas had a relationship with fellow actress Camila Bordonaba at the time they were both cast for Chiquititas and Rebelde Way; they split in 2004 He dated model María Del Cerro, but they broke up in 2008. [edit] Career[edit] ActingBenjamín Rojas began his professional show business career when he was cast as Yago in Cris Morena's production, Chiquititas, in 1998. His portrays Yago, a jungle Tarzan-like boy who helps María Jimena Piccolo's Jimena out of a jungle and in turn gets helped by Jimena herself who takes him to the Rincón de Luz orphanage. In 1999, for its fifth season, Chiquititas got a complete makeover and renewed its story completely. Rojas continued on the show but playing a new character: Bautista Arce. During Chiquititas last three seasons, he was one of the most popular cast members. After his participation in that teenager-oriented telenovela, Rojas went on to reprise his role as Bautista Arce in the 2001 Chiquititas feature film Chiquititas: Rincón de Luz. Rojas broke through in the music world in 2002. He played Pablo Bustamante in the Martín Fierro Award—nominated hit television series Rebelde Way. Along with fellow former Chiquititas actors Camila Bordonaba, Felipe Colombo and Luisana Lopilato, he formed a music band, named Erreway, which has many fans across the planet.[citation needed] In 2004, when Rebelde Way finished, he replayed his role of Pablo in film version of Rebelde Way, Erreway: 4 Caminos, which was a major Argentine cinema success. In 2004 Rojas starred in Telefe series Floricienta, his third consecutive Cris Morena project (in the span of seven years). He starred in the role of Franco Fritzenwalden, alongside Florencia Bertotti and Juan Gil Navarro. He played the role during the two seasons of the show. In 2006 Rojas was cast in his fourth consecutive Cris Morena project, portraying Cruz Navarro in the series Alma Pirata, alongside Luisana Lopilato, Mariano Martínez and Elsa Pinilla. Rojas co–starred Alejandro Awada in 2008 film Kluge. The same year he starred alongside Pablo Rago in the film La leyenda. Those two projects were his first non-Cris Morena projects. He also starred in the television series Jake & Blake. In late 2008 Rojas signed a contract with Argentine Disney Channel and Cris Morena Group for an international television show.[1]. Because the project would be shot entirely in English, he spent six months studying in California. Benjamin Rojas also shot cellphone soap Atrapados also with Cris Morena. He also appeared on Casi Angeles in a guest role during four episodes in the third season and on the first season finale. [edit] MusicDuring the development of Rebelde Way, Rojas and his co-stars—Camila Bordonaba, Felipe Colombo and Luisana Lopilato—have become the members of music group Erreway. They immediately reached worldwide popularity, especially in Latin America, Spain, Europe and Israel. All their studio albums, Señales (2002), Tiempo (2003) and Memoria, reached Platinum certification. In 2007 Luisana Lopilato officially left Erreway, which now consists of Bordonaba, Colombo and Rojas.[2] They released Erreway presenta su caja recopilatoria, the greatest hits compilation, in 2007.[3] Rojas has recorded several soundtrack albums for his television series. This includes five Chiquititas soundtrack albums, released from 1998 to 2001. He also had songs in the Floricienta soundtrack album.
