The Bendigo Football League is an Australian rules football competition based in the Bendigo region of Victoria, Australia. A full grandstand at the Queen Elizabeth Oval for the 2007 Grand Final of the Bendigo Football League. Formed in 1880, it is one of the oldest football leagues in Australia, and among its members are some of the oldest football clubs in Australia, including the Castlemaine Football Club, acknowledged as the second oldest football club in Australia and one of the oldest football clubs in the world.

[edit] Castlemaine Football ClubMain article: Castlemaine Football Club [edit] Eaglehawk Football Clubpast players that have gone onto afl/vfl include Rod Ashman Damien Lock and more recently Jarryn Geary, they have won 27 premierships in the BFL. [edit] Gisborne Football ClubJioned the Bendigo Football League in 2000 after dominating the Riddell District Football League during the 1990's. Played in seven successive Grand Finals between 2002 and 2008. [edit] Golden SquareGolden Square is based in Bendigo and famous past players include Nathan G. Brown, Wayne Campbell and Greg Williams. [edit] Kangaroo Flat Football ClubOtherwise known as "Flat Rats", wear a green and white jumper, and are known as the Kangaroos. Joined the Bendigo league in 1980 when the district competition and the league merged. Won the 1996 premiership. [edit] Kyneton Football ClubKyneton Football club are known as the Tigers and wear a black strip with a yellow sash. [edit] Maryborough Football ClubHad a stint from 1932 to 1940. Rejoined the league in 1992. Spent the interim in the Ballarat Football League. [edit] Sandhurst Football ClubThe Sandhurst Football & Netball club was first formed in June 1861, by Melbourne Football Club rulemaker J.B. Thompson. Alumni include the Selwood brothers: Troy Selwood, Adam Selwood, Joel Selwood, and Scott Selwood [edit] South Bendigo Football ClubSouth Bendigo entered the fray in 1893. Since then, the club has won twenty-four senior premierships, South Bendigo won its first premiership in 1899 and had ten by the time the Great War in 1915 suspended the competition. The club added an eleventh when competition was resumed in 1919. The Bloods continued as a force during the first half of the 1920s, adding further premierships in 1921 and 1925. The club won a hat-trick of premierships between 1954 and 1956. Between 1990 and 1995 the club were victorious in four grand finals.
