Be (‹Б, б›) is the second letter in the Cyrillic alphabet. It represents /b/, a voiced bilabial plosive similar to the English pronunciation of ‹b›. In Russian amd Bulgarian, ‹б› may also represent a voiceless [p] word-finally or before a voiceless consonant, and /bʲ/ before a palatalizing vowel. In Russian, Bulgarian, and Ukrainian, ‹б› is romanized as the Latin letter ‹B›. The old name for ‹б› was Buki. It had no numerical value. ‹В› inherited beta's numeric value in the old system of Cyrillic numerals, so ‹б› had none. [edit] Form Be in cursive. Though its physical appearance is approximately similar to a figure 6, it should not be confused with the Cyrillic letter в (called ve), which is shaped like Latin capital letter B and indicates /v/, the voiced labiodental fricative. Both letters are derived from Greek beta. When hand-written, the lower-cased б may look like the lower-cased delta, δ. [edit] Code positions
