The Battle of Montenotte was fought on 12 April 1796, during the French Revolutionary Wars, between French forces under General Bonaparte and Austro-Sardinian force under Count Argenteau. The battle was fought near the village of Montenotte, in northwestern Italy, and ended in a French victory.

General Bonaparte advanced from the Ligurian coast and drove a wedge between the Austrian forces under General Beaulieu and Austro-Sardinian forces under Count Argenteau. General Bonaparte engaged the latter at Montenotte ordering General Laharpe to attack frontally and General Massena to attack the right wing. Count Argenteau tried to stop the French manoeuvre, but acted too late, his forces were scattered, most of his losses being troops captured. The battle was General Bonaparte’s first victory in the Italian Campaign.
