The Modern basic Latin alphabet is a Latin-derived alphabet and comprises all 26 letters, plus the alphabet's diacritics: It is codified in ISO/IEC 646 and in the "Basic Latin" range (0000–007F) for the Latin characters in Unicode. The upper case is at 0041-005A, lower at 0061-007A. The letters are also available in ASCII.

The corresponding languages can still use diacritics, but these are not treated as separate letters in the alphabet. English is unique among major modern European languages in requiring no diacritics for native words (although they are occasionally used by some writers in words such as coöperation, The New Yorker being the usual example[1]).
