Basic Element (Russian: Базовый элемент, /Bázovyi elyemyént/, or simply “Базэл”) is a diversified investment company founded in 1997 and owned by Oleg Deripaska. It is based in Moscow, Russia.^[1]

The company owns stock in more than 100 companies in six different industry sectors,^[2] including energy, manufacturing, machinery, resources, financial services, construction and development, and aviation.^[1]

The companies belonging to the group are located in Russia, the CIS, Africa, Australia, Asia, Europe and Latin America. They employ about 300,000 people.^[2]

In 2007 the company's revenues were $26.8 bln, growing 45% relative to the previous year. It had $45 bln worth of assets.^[3]
