Barr Laboratories, Inc. was founded in 1970 by Edwin A. Cohen. Under Cohen's leadership and guidance, Barr overcame the many obstacles associated with a small company and continued to grow and prosper. Mr. Cohen was an inspiration to many in the field, proving that the "little guy" could make a mark in the already established pharmaceutical industry. His special brand of leadership resulted in loyalty and dedication that brought the best products to the market by employees that actually loved their jobs and took pride in their work. Thru his efforts, Barr Laboratories went public.

Barr Laboratories today is a division of Teva Pharmaceuticals. On July 18 2008 it was announced that, Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd will acquire Barr Pharmaceuticals Inc for $7.46 billion plus the assumption of net debt of approximately $1.5 billion.^[1] Teva Pharmaceuticals develops and markets generic pharmaceuticals under various brand names - including the the Barr Laboratories, Inc. label. Teva Pharmaceuticals is the largest generic drug manufacturer in the world.
