The Bangalore Open (sponsored name: Canara Bank Bangalore Open) was a tennis tournament held in Bangalore, India. The tournament began in Hyderabad in 2003, and moved to Bangalore in 2006. This WTA Tour event was a Tier II-tournament and was played on outdoor hardcourts. It was a Tier III event with a prize Money of US$175,000. It was upgraded to a Tier II event for 2008. With a prize money of US$ 600,000. Bangalore Open '08 was the biggest Women's Tennis Event not only in India but whole of South & South East Asia.[1]

The 2008 edition was won by 26-year old, 8 time grand-slam champion Serena Williams, who defeated the fourth-seeded Swiss Patty Schnyder 7-5, 6-3, in the finals, winning her 29th WTA Tour title.[2]

Following the restructure of the WTA Tour, there was no WTA event in India in 2009.
