A band cell (or band neutrophil) is a cell undergoing granulopoiesis, derived from a metamyelocyte, and leading to a mature granulocyte. It is characterized by having a nucleus which is curved, but not lobar.[1] Often the term "band cell" implies a neutrophilic lineage. However, the term is not used only with neutrophils.[2] A count of band neutrophils is used to measure inflammation. An excess is called bandemia.
