[edit] Plot

The episode started with the death of a man named Joel Ivey. He and his friends were playing Texas Hold'em at his apartment and notice Joel's acquaintance, Kelly Lindgren, was cheating by dealing "seconds" or cards underneath the card to be dealt. Joel and his friends severely beat Kelly and throw him out. A few moments later, Joel was shot in the face with a shotgun, allegedly by Kelly for revenge. In Strawberry Fields park, weathergirl Tara Stansfield was found face-down dead on the ground in a puddle. Mac, Stella, Lindsay and Flack investigated the Ivey case while Danny and Hawkes pick up the Stansfield case.

Mac crashes an underground poker game in the back of a cigar shop and arrest Kelly on the spot after gunshot residue was on his long jacket which was found in the dumpster with the shotgun. Kelly was mad at Joel for him and his friends beating him to a pulp, but swore he didn't kill him. Stella checked the cards in the exact order before Joel died. Kelly had aces before he was beaten senseless, but after the flop, turn, and river, Joel would've won the pot with a full house of Kings over tens, so Kelly was released with the murder charges dropped.

Danny and Hawkes went to Channel 8 Action News to interview the news director Mr. Fallon trying to find out who wanted Tara dead. Then soon discovered a broken VHS tape in the file cabinet. With repairs from CSI rookie lab technician Adam Ross, they discovered it was a low-budget porn movie of Tara and Mr. Fallon. The CSI think Fallon killed Tara before his wife found out about that affair he had, but there's more to it.

Meanwhile, the operators at CSI informed Mac about 911 calls at the same time when the Ivey murder took place. However, there was a 911 call before the Ivey murder took place. A young woman named Heather and her boyfriend named Scott were in an elevator heading back to Heather's apartment 9C, illegally subletting Scott when a drunk man was harassing Heather while he was drunk and reeking of marijuana. Heather headed back into her apartment and Scott gave a cheap shot to the drunk. It was Heather who tried to dail 911, but hung up as Scott headed back in as he saw the drunk angrily heading up the elevator, thinking that was the end of it. Mac and Stella told Scott that wasn't the end of it. He came down with his shotgun to kill Scott in 9C, but mistakeny shot Ivey in 8C.

Danny and Hawkes found out that Tara had a twin sister named Kayla, who had a deep sibling rivalry with Tara. Tara was considered the "evil twin" and Kayla the "good twin". Danny and Hawkes noticed the fish tank behind Kayla and remembered that Tara died while drowning. Kayla was a bit outraged that Tara scratched Kayla on her cheek to rub her success in her face as well as releasing her porn movie entitled "Stormy Nights". However, Kayla told CSI that Tara called her and spologized for the way she treated her and planned on cancelling the release of "Stormy Nights". However, it was distributed through the Internet, insinuating Tara was brazingly lying and throw more of her success into Kayla's face.

Then, Danny and Hawkes found more evidence near the murder site while it was still raining. They noticed tripod indentations on the ground. Danny and Hawkes soon find and arrest Action News cameraman Leonard Harris for the murder of Tara Stansfield. It was revealed that Harris hid the camera in Tara's house as Mr. Fallon was there. Tara and Harris planned on distributing it worldwide until Tara had a change of thought after the fight she started with Kayla and cancelled the deal, but Harris, knowing Tara would back out, made a copy and had it distrubited over the Internet. Tara scratched Harris' face in rage and Harris clubbed Tara in the head, breaking the level from the tripod into the ground, leaving Harris to collect the profits while Fallon takes the fall for her murder.

Finally, Mac and Stella find gunshot residue on the 14th floor. A man named James was brought down to police. They showed James a photo of Joel Ivey and a man in a tuxedo and James claimed he didn't kow them. James didn't know Ivey, but lied about the man in the tuxedo, which happened to be James two years ago. James had a respectable job, a loving wife and a beautiful daughter, until he was assaulted by two hoods who doused him in kerosene and threatened him by lighting him on fire. He was admitted in ICU for two years. James was alright physically, but the mental anguish was too much for him to bear, and found escapism in drugs and alcohol, vowing never to be a victim again. That changed after Scott attacked James outside 9C. He headed up to his apartment on the 14th floor and grabbed his shotgun ready to head back down, but not before drinking lots of alcohol. James' drunken rage blurred his vision and mistook 8C for 9C and blasted Joel Ivey's head clean off. James realized that he was arrested for murdering a complete total stranger who just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time.
