BADR4 (aka Arabsat 4B) is a SUPARCO-built communications satellite operated by Arabsat, launched November 8, 2006 on a Proton Breeze M rocket. Badr-4 was developed and designed by the Pakistan's Space agency SUPARCO. The satellite program was sole financed by the Government of Saudi Arabia. The satellite was planned to launched from Sonmiani Satellite launch center but was postponed. Instead the satellite was shipped to Russia where it was launched. Badr 4 is located at 26.0°E.[1]. The satellite was a successfully launched from Russia. Due to success of the satellite, Arabsat led an another agreement with SUPARCO in which the SUPARCO will developed and designed another upgrade version of Badr-4 communication satellite. The satellite is named as Badr-6 or Arabsat-5C which is underdeveloped and will be launched in the of 2009. [edit] Description
This new satellite carries 32 transponders in Ku-band/FSS & Ku-band/BSS. The spacecraft utilizes Aerospatiale's Spacebus 3000 platform to carry 22 C-band transponders (including eight 52 W moderate power transponders) and 12 Ku-band transponders. Arabsat 2 spacecraft has a mass of more than two metric tons on station. The maximum dimensions of the spacecraft bus is 1.8 m by 2.3 m, and the solar array span is 25 m for a 5 kW electrical power capacity. [edit] References
