AuroraNetics was a San Jose, California based fabless semiconductor vendor which specialized in making devices for a pre-standard version of IEEE 802.17 also known as Resilient Packet Ring or RPR. RPR is a protocol for metro-area networking, typically implemented on SONET rings at either OC-48 (2.5 Gbit/s) or OC-192 (10 Gbit/s). It wa acquired by Cisco Systems on July 11, 2000 for $150M. At the time of the acquisition, it had 52 employees. Its CEO was Nader Vasseghi. Necdet Uzun was a key technologist and their representative to the 802.17 RPR working group.
