Attalea is a large genus of palms native to the Caribbean, Central and South America. This pinnately leaved genus includes some of the largest neotropical palms. According to the Arecaceae section of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew: World Checklist of Selected Plant Families,[1] there are 67 recognised species in this genus.

Common names: Cohune palm, rain tree, American oil palm, corozo palm, manaca palm.
