Atom.com (formerly AtomFilms) is an award-winning broadband entertainment network offering original short subject films, animations, and series by independent creators. The company was founded in 1998 in Seattle by Mika Salmi.
Hit Atom titles include Angry Kid, Star Wars fan films, JibJab's This Land, The Legend of Neil, Stickman Exodus and many more. Atom's content is available on the Internet at Atom.com, various mobile partners, including AT&T, Alltel and Verizon's VCast mobile entertainment service; and on services such as Xbox and iTunes. Atom.com is primarily supported by advertising.
[edit] Buyout
On August 10, 2006, Atom Entertainment was bought by MTV Networks with all its properties, including AtomFilms, Addicting Games, Addicting Clips (renamed AtomUploads) and Shockwave.com.[1]
[edit] Relaunch
In late June 2008, AtomFilms re-launched as Atom.com and switched its focus to just comedy. As a result, many of the indie films were removed. The re-launch also aligned Atom with Comedy Central, including a new series, Atom TV, that airs Monday nights on the network.[2]
