AsiaWorld-Expo, fully integrated with Hong Kong International Airport, is located in the northeast corner of Chek Lap Kok island, Hong Kong. It is operated by AsiaWorld-Expo Management Limited and was opened on 21 December 2005 by Donald Tsang, Chief Executive of Hong Kong. At a construction cost of HK$2.35 billion, AsiaWorld-Expo offers over 70,000 square metres of rentable space with 10 ground-level and column-free halls, including the 13,500-seat AsiaWorld-Arena which is the biggest purpose-built indoor seated entertainment arena in Hong Kong as well as AsiaWorld-Summit, Hong Kong’s newest and largest indoor conference and banquet venue that seats 700 to 5,000 persons, for exhibitions, conventions, concerts, sports and entertainment events. [edit] Others - A Citywide Christmas Celebration (24 December 2005), hosted by Christian organisation City Renewal. It was the first large scale event held at AsiaWorld-Expo. Deputy CEO of AsiaWorld-Expo Allen Ha offered free venue space for the host organisation. This event was sponsored by the MTR Corporation, and Airport Express was designated the official railway of the event.
- China Sourcing Fairs (April & October 2006 onwards), hosted by Global Sources; attracted over 110,000 international visitors to its 13,000 exhibitors every year.
- ITU Telecom World 2006 (4 December 2006 – 8 December 2006), hosted by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU); the first time the conference is held in any city other than Geneva, Switzerland.
- K-1 World Grand Prix 2007 in Hong Kong (4 August 2007)
- Asian Aerospace International Expo and Congress (3-6 September 2007 & 8-10 September 2009), hosted by Reed Exhibitions It was previously held in Singapore only. In its first presence in Hong Kong, the exhibition included an Airbus A380 flying low over Victoria Harbour at 8am on 3 September 2007.[1] Following the successful staging in Hong Kong in 2007, this biannual expo has been confirmed to return to here in 2009 and 2011.
- Sino-International Freight Forwarders Conference (21-24 June 2008 & 11-14 June 2009) held its flagship gathering for the second consecutive years
- The 47th Orient & Southeast Asia Lions (OSEAL)Forum (4-7 December 2008), hosted by Lions Clubs, attracted over 6,000 delegates to Hong Kong.
- September Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair (21-25 September 2009), held under the concept of “One Fair, Two Venues” at the two world-class venues in Hong Kong, including AsiaWorld-Expo and Hong Kong Conventions and Exhibitions Centre, it was the largest jewellery and gem event in the world.
