Aris Kindt being autopsied on Rembrandt's Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp Aris Kindt (Aris the Kid) was the alias of a man (real name Adriaan Adriaanszoon) convicted of armed robbery in the Netherlands in the early 1600s. He was sentenced to death by hanging. His body was later autopsied by the Amsterdam Guild of Surgeons on 16 January 1632. The autopsy was painted by Rembrandt that year in Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp, which depicts the surgeon Nicolaes Tulp at work, surrounded by students and spectators. Some of the spectators are patrons who paid commissions to be included in Rembrandt's painting. He is discussed in the 1999 novel The Rings of Saturn by W. G. Sebald. [edit] See also
