[edit] History

The Argentine Association Football League (in English) was founded on February 21 1893 (thus it is the oldest in South America and one of the oldest to be formed outside Europe), to be later renamed Argentine Football Association in 1903, and translated into Asociación Argentina de Football (Argentine Football Association) in 1912.

The parallel Federación Argentina de Football (Argentine Football Federation), founded in 1912, joined the Asociación Argentina de Football, as well as did the 1919 founded Asociacion Amateurs de Football (Amateur Football Association) in 1926.

In 1926 it was again renamed to Asociación Amateur de Argentina de Football (Argentine Amateur Football Association), but with the professionalization of the sport in 1931 it was named Asociación de Football Amateur y Profesionales (Amateur and Professional Football Association). The first round of the first professional championship was on May 31 1931.[1]

The Liga Argentina de Football (Argentine Football League), founded in 1931 merged with the Asociación de Football Amateur y Profesionales on November 3, 1934, into what is still today the Asociación de Fútbol Argentino (Argentine Football Association).

[edit] Website hacking

On September 12, 2009 a group of hackers, calling themselves KKR, were able to access the federation's website and place a picture of head coach Diego Maradona wearing a Brazil jersey, with the text "a picture is worth a thousand words." underneath the image. This is the third website being hacked, but is the first time that the hackers managed to place a picture on the website. This comes in light of the tremendous amount of criticism that Diego Maradona is enduring after the Argentina consecutive defeats against Brazil and Paraguay in their 2010 World Cup qualifiers. In addition to this, they also lost to Ecuador in Quito back in June, meaning that they have lost three qualifiers in a row.

The photo that was placed on the main page of the website was a still of a Guaraná Antarctica commercial that the 1986 World Cup winner starred in, alongside Ronaldo and Kaka in 2006.

Since the attack, there is no access to the AFA site, and visitors will only be able to see the federation crest.[2]

The site was available again as of 18 September.
