Area code 765 is a North American Numbering Plan area code for Central Indiana. It serves most Central Indiana excluding the Indianapolis Metropolitan Service Area. Some cities included are Marion, Anderson, Crawfordsville, Kokomo, Lafayette, Muncie, Richmond, Winchester, and West Lafayette.

Originally, area code 317 covered all of Central Indiana. Eventually, population growth and increased number demand necessitated a split for the region. Beginning on February 1, 1997, with mandatory dialing effective June 28, the greater Indianapolis area retained 317 and the remainder of Central Indiana split off into area code 765.^[1]
