The Arab Academy for Science and Technology and Maritime Transport (also known as AASTMT or AAST) is an organization specialized in Science and Technology and Maritime Transport.

Over the past years, the academy, which started as a regional maritime academy has received a worldwide recognition. This is due to its important contribution to the international maritime world and in particular to Egypt and African countries.

[edit] Initiatory Stages

The idea of establishing a regional maritime training institute was approved by the Transport Committee of the Arab League in 1970. Towards the end of 1971, the United Nations delegated a joint committee to the region which concluded its investigation by recommending the establishment of the institute under the name of "The Arab Maritime Transport Academy (AMTA)",

In 1972, AMTA started to function, as a regional UNDP project, by offering maritime education and training to qualify seafarers in three streams: navigation, marine engineering, commercial studies (UNCTAD) and seamen training.

The academy functions from a number of sites, the largest of which overlooks Abu Qir bay in Alexandria.A smaller branch is in Miami in Alexandria. Other campuses are located in Cairo (Heliopolis and Dokki Campuses), Aswan, Latakia (Syria)

The academy comprises the College of Maritime Transport and Technology, College of Engineering and Technology, College of Computing and Information Technology, College of Management and Technology, College of International Transport and Logistics, Institute of Sea Training, Institute of Productivity and Total Quality, Advanced Management and Port Training Institute, Maritime Research and Consultation Centre, and the Integrated Simulators Complex, one of the most advanced in the whole world. It also provides Community Service programmes. The Virginia Tech Middle East and North Africa Program offers Masters and Doctoral degress in Electrical (Communication) Engineering, Computer Engineering, and Computer Science through a partnership with Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia, United States.^[1]

Ali , Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Control Engineering, Industrial and Management Engineering, Construction and Building Engineering, Architectural Engineering and Environmental Design, Basic Applied Sciences.

• College of Management and Technology departments: Management information system, Marketing & International Business , E-commerce , Finance & Accounting and Hotel & Tourism .

• Ports Training Institute:PTI was the first professional institute established.On 26/7/1982, according to a ministerial Degree stipulating that PTI is to be affiliated to the Arab Academy for science and Technology and Maritime Transport.A committee comprising the Chairmen of Port Authorities and Maritime Companies defined the focal mission of the Institute as follows:
