Angela Michelle "Angie" Harmon (born August 10, 1972) is an American fashion model and television/film actress. She became a well-known model in the 1990s and developed a career as a television star after roles on Baywatch Nights and Law & Order. She most recently starred in ABC's Tuesday evening drama Women's Murder Club.
BiographyEarly lifeHarmon was born in Highland Park, Texas, the daughter of models Daphne Demar (née Caravageli) and Lawrence Paul "Larry" Harmon, who was also a hospital information network executive in Dallas.[1] Her mother is of Greek descent and her father is of Irish and Cherokee Native American ancestry.[2] Both of her parents were models in the 1970s. They divorced in 1982 and her father later remarried. Harmon worked as a child model and in 1988, won a Seventeen modeling contest. She attended Highland Park High School until 1990 where she was a member of the Highland Belles. She won a Spectrum Model Search contest shortly afterward, subsequently pursuing a successful modeling career and becoming well-known in the early 1990s. She worked as a runway model for Calvin Klein, Giorgio Armani, and Donna Karan and appeared on the covers of ELLE, Cosmopolitan, and Esquire. She is signed to IMG Models in New York City. CareerHarmon began acting in 1995 after being discovered on a plane by David Hasselhoff.[3] She then starred in several television series, including Baywatch Nights, Baywatch and C-16: FBI; she also appeared in the 1998 film, Lawn Dogs, which received only a limited theatrical release. In the early 2000s, Harmon became better known as playing Abbie Carmichael on the series Law & Order, a role she played from 1998 to 2001. During this time, she also voiced Barbara Gordon in the animated film, Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker, replacing Stockard Channing, as well as appearing on Law & Order. Harmon left Law & Order to concentrate on her film career, saying that she preferred working in film to television.[4] After appearing in the 2001 direct-to-video film Good Advice, she had a major role in Agent Cody Banks, playing the CIA handler of a teenage agent (Frankie Muniz). The film opened in March 2003 and became a minor hit, grossing $47 million.[5] Although Harmon was originally scheduled to appear in the sequel, the producers chose to take a more comedic approach, and replaced Harmon with Anthony Anderson.[6] In 2006, Harmon co-starred with Cuba Gooding Jr. and James Woods in the direct-to-DVD political suspense drama End Game. In 2006, Harmon starred as the lead in the ABC pilot Secrets of a Small Town. Despite testing highly with focus groups, the pilot was not picked up by ABC due to its high budget. She also starred in another failed television show on NBC, Inconceivable. The program was canceled after two episodes. In 2007, she starred in another ABC pilot, Women's Murder Club.[7] The police drama was picked up, but cancelled after the first season with only 13 episodes produced and aired. In April 2008 "Angie Harmon Goes Naked for Allure Magazine" featured Harmon as one of five actresses who strip down to their birthday suits for the May issue of Allure magazine. She appeared nude along with Gabrielle Union; Zoe McLellan of ABC's Dirty Sexy Money; singer and actress Jill Scott; and Ana Ortiz of Ugly Betty.[8] Wizard of Oz stage showIn 1998, Angie Harmon was Dorothy, in a blue and white gingham dress and braided pigtails in the Wizard of Oz stage show. As with Harmon was Lara Teeter as the Scarecrow, J. Stephen Coyle as the Tin Man, Jay Leno as the Wizard, Julia Roberts as Glinda the Good Witch of the North, Eartha Kitt as the Wicked Witch of the West, Auntie Em was performed by Sonia Manzano, and Uncle Henry is performed by Emilio Delgiado.[citation needed] Personal lifeHarmon is married to former professional football player Jason Sehorn. The two were engaged on March 13, 2000. Harmon was taping an interview segment on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno when Leno called Sehorn out as a surprise guest. Sehorn immediately walked up to where Angie was sitting, and knelt down on one knee in front of her chair and proposed. (She thought that he was in New York at the time.) They were married on June 9, 2001, and have three daughters; Finley Faith (born October 14, 2003 in Dallas, Texas), Avery Grace (born June 22, 2005, also in Dallas), and Emery Hope (born December 18, 2008).[9] When it comes to parenting, Harmon's goal is to raise her daughters with a healthy dose of good manners as well as religion. "I don't think they get the concept of God yet, but we're working it in slowly. You have to make it fun," she says in a Cookie interview. She also makes sure she teaches her girls to have a sense of humor because in the end, everyone gets made fun of. With that, she and Sehorn affectionately refer to their tall daughters as Sasquatches. "We're hoping if they hear it at home, it won't hurt when they hear it at school."[10] She is left-handed. Harmon is a Republican. She and her husband delivered a speech at the 2004 Republican National Convention,[11] and supported John McCain for president in 2008.[12] She has also said that she would support Sarah Palin were she to run for President in 2012.[13] Filmography
