Maria Luisa Angela Martinez de Leon (born August 22, 1979 in Manila, Philippines), or more famously known as Angelu de Leon is a television film actress in the Philippines.
[edit] BiographyShe is the youngest daughter of Luis & Flora de Leon, she came from the famous de Leon clan, great granddaughter of LVN's matriarch Dona Narcisa "Sisang" de Leon. She's a certified jackstone and Chinese garter champion in her grade school days in St. Joseph's College, Holy Spirit and Sienna College. She did her first commercial when she was just 10 years old without her father's knowledge. He had imposed she shouldn't be in showbiz, and offered twice the money she earned but became the proudest after seeing her on TV. He eventually gave his blessings before he died of colon cancer. She is now a Born-Again Evangelical Christian. [edit] Career[edit] The Child StarAngelu de Leon started acting at the age of 12. She was discovered by Johnny Manahan for a kiddie gag show Ang TV aired over ABS-CBN. She shared screen time with Claudine Barretto, Jolina Magdangal, and Rica Peralejo. After about a year on Ang TV, she signed up with Viva Films & transferred to GMA Network to do a sitcom called Ober Da Bakod with Janno Gibbs and Anjo Yllana. Angelu de Leon also joined the movies, where she mostly played younger sister to more established stars. Among her early appearances were: Sharon Cuneta's (Di Na Natuto), Ana Roces, Vina Morales, and Donna Cruz (Kadenang Bulaklak), Mikee Cojuangco, (Forever) Robin Padilla (P're Hanggang Sa Huli), Alice Dixson (Okey Si Ma'am). [edit] The Teen StarIn 1995 Angelu got her break when she was included in teen oriented shows like TGIS (Thank God It's Sabado) and Growing Up with Onemig Bondoc, Ciara Sotto, Raven Villanueva, Michael Flores, Rica Peralejo, and Red Sternberg. She teamed-up with Bobby Andrews. Their love team became one of the hottest love teams in her generation namely the Mid 90's. Among the noted Angelu-Bobby team-up movies were: Silaw, Takot Ka Ba Sa Dilim, TGIS The Movie, Laging Naroon Ka, Wala Na Bang Pag-ibig, and their first teleseries Ikaw Na Sana which was also turned into a movie. All of her TV shows and movies are certified hits & she creates commotion wherever she goes. [edit] Young motherhoodIn the early part of 1998 at the peak of her career, De Leon got pregnant with Action Star Joko Diaz. As a result, she had to go on maternity leave while the supposed projects she had to work on got shelved or were passed on to other young stars. Despite being a young mother, she managed to come back from the slump and accept mature roles assigned to her by Viva. She was on her way back to lead star status when she got pregnant again in the year 2001 with businessman Jojo Manlongat. [edit] Sexy StarAfter her career as a young star was cut short by her first pregnancy, De Leon decided to do movies that required showing skin and do daring roles. Among her daring movies were: Bulaklak ng Maynila (where she received a Best Supporting Actress Award), Bukas Na Lang Kita Mamahalin (where she was nominated as FAP Best Actress), and www.XXX.com (with Juliana Palermo). She is also a covergirl on men's magazine FHM on year 2003. Among her appearances were: Ikaw Na Sana (with Bobby Andrews and Gladys Reyes), Sana Ay Ikaw Na Nga (with Dingdong Dantes and Tanya Garcia), Ang Lahat Ng Ito'y Para Sayo, (with Bobby Andrews), May Bukas Pa (1999 TV series) (with Dina Bonnevie and Cherie Gil), Abandonada (with Maricel Soriano and Edu Manzano), Aishite Imasu 1941: Mahal Kita (with Judy Ann Santos) and Paupahan (with Snooky Serna and Gloria Romero). [edit] The Mother RolesWith her status as celebrity mom, producers hired De Leon to do mother roles. Her first mother role in a series was in Sana Ay Ikaw Na Nga. Super Inggo and Super Inggo 1.5: Ang Bagong Bangis had her play lead support/mother to Makisig Morales and recently, in Pare Koy where she essayed a family woman to lead star Jason Gainza. In the series, she has two kids. [edit] The Antagonist RolesDe Leon also did villain roles in two of her Teleseryes: Te Amo, Maging Sino Ka Man (with Iza Calzado) and the recent Ang Babaeng Hinugot sa Aking Tadyang (with Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes) (which was her comeback show in GMA-7). It was in the latter soap that she was given rave reviews, complimented with the fact that she was back to her sexy figure and can give other young sexy actresses a run for their money.
