This article is about the American filmmaker. For the Spanish wrestler, see Ángel Acevedo. Angel Acevedo is an American filmmaker, known for his work on the creation of the popular webseries We Need Girlfriends.
[edit] Early lifeAngel L. Acevedo III was born in Chicago, Illinois on July 26, 1982. His father was an officer in the United States Army, and he spent his early years moving from place to place across the United States, and even to Europe. Even though he moved so often, one constant in his life was a love of film.
While he was a sophomore in high school, he wanted to go to the root of filmmaking and become a screenwriter. Ultimately, however, Angel attended Hofstra University to become a film director, and earned a Bachelor's degree in Film Studies and Production. He graduated, having produced four short films, and having won an award for Best Screenplay for his thesis "Cheesecake". [edit] PersonalityAcevedo often remarks that the character of "Rod" from We Need Girlfriends is loosely based on him, though most of the character is part of "Steven Tsapelas' fantasy". He is known for his large DVD collection - 386 of them appear in We Need Girlfriends. It is also often stated that Angel is a fan of afternoon naps. His love of Jenga and videogames was joked about in the episode "Rod vs. Henry," but it's often been stated that Acevedo has never, can never and will never beat Tsapelas in any form of competition. In July 2008 he fulfilled a lifelong dream by firing a gun for the first time, emulating his heroes like Schwarzenegger in "Commando" or Willis in "Mercury Rising." In August of 2008, he decided he was going to buy a Playstation 3. [edit] Ragtag FilmsAcevedo met Brian Amyot and Steven Tsapelas while studying at Hofstra University, and in 2004, they formed Ragtag Productions, however, the three had been making films together as early as 2001. [edit] We Need GirlfriendsAcevedo is one of the driving forces behind We Need Girlfriends series, filming most of the scenes. As well as the character of Rod being loosely based on him, the apartment where much of the series is set is owned by Acevedo and Brian Amyot. Acevedo is also known for his work on the "spinning text" Ragtag logo seen at the end of We Need Girlfriends. [edit] External links |
