Anelia Vetchernikova née Nuneva (Bulgarian: Анелия Нунева) (born June 30, 1962) is a retired sprinter from Bulgaria, she competed mainly in the 100m. In the final of the 100m at the 1988 Summer Olympic Games she was drawn in lane 4 alongside Florence Griffith-Joyner the red hot favorite. She managed to get out the blocks extremely well and challenged Griffith-Joyner up to about seventy metres when suddenly she pulled a muscle in full flight. She desperately tried to pull up and actually crossed the line in last place albeit injured. She competed again in 1992, but finished sixth. Her greatest moments came when she won silver medals at the 1986 European Championships and 1987 World Indoor Championships.
