Andy Bolton is an English powerlifter from Leeds. Andy Bolton was born in Dewsbury, Yorkshire on 22 January 1970 but moved to Leeds due to training requirements in his late teens to early twenties.
[edit] Early lifeAt the age of thirteen Andy Bolton decided that weight training was what he wished to do, this was after seeing some youths in the local youth club lifting weights. Bolton's father was not enthusiastic about his lifting weights at such a young age, and monitored his lifting carefully to ensure he did not lift too much. It was not until Bolton was 18 years old that his father let him move forward and start to lift heavier weights on a full training regimen. [edit] CareerBolton won his first competitive competition in 1991 when he was twenty-one years of age, at a local powerlifting event called the BAWLA Yorkshire Junior Championships. Bolton has since competed in the WPO/WPC He is the current World Powerlifting Organization "world record holder" (1273 kg/2806 lb).[1] Bolton also holds the current WPO world records in the squat (550.5 kg/1213 lb) and deadlift (457.5 kg/1009 lb)[1], and was the first to demonstrate a deadlift of over a thousand pounds.[2] Bolton has also competed in strongman contests.
