Andrew James Alberts (born June 30, 1981) is an American professional ice hockey defenseman who plays for the Carolina Hurricanes of the National Hockey League (NHL).

Alberts played high school hockey for Benilde-St. Margaret's School from 1997–1999. He played the next two seasons in the United States Hockey League with the Waterloo Blackhawks. Alberts was drafted by the Boston Bruins in the sixth round (179th overall) of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.

Alberts played collegiately for Boston College from 2001–2005 with a total of 66 points and 243 penalty minutes in 149 career college games. He didn't miss a game until suffering two knee injuries during his senior year in 2004–05. He was named an East First Team All-American in 2004 and 2005. He was named to the Hockey East First Team All-Star, Hockey East All-Tournament Team, and All American all in the year that the Boston College Eagles won the Hockey East Title.

His college career over, Alberts made his professional debut with the Providence Bruins, Boston's American Hockey League affiliate, towards the end of the 2004–05 season. He made his NHL debut during the 2005–06 season and played in 73 games for the Bruins. During the 2007–08 season he was limited to 35 games due to a neck injury suffered on November 26, 2007 after being hit by Philadelphia Flyers forward Scott Hartnell. Hartnell was suspended two games for the hit.^[1]

After being a healthy scratch for the Bruins first two games in the 2008–09 season, Alberts was traded to Philadelphia for Ned Lukacevic and a conditional 2009 draft pick on October 13, 2008.^[2] Alberts cemented a position on the Flyers blueline and played in every game the rest of the regular season.

On July 16, 2009, Alberts signed as a free agent with the Carolina Hurricanes for 2 years.
