Anderson Junior College (AJC) is a junior college in Ang Mo Kio, Singapore. The college, established in 1984, is a ten-minute walk from Yio Chu Kang MRT station and is well-served by buses. Today, AJC has positioned itself as a leading junior college in Singapore. It has consistently been ranked sixth among the other junior colleges in Singapore, based on the academic performance in the Singapore-Cambridge A-Level Examination.
[edit] HistoryAJC was the 11th junior college to be established in Singapore, receiving its first batch of students in 1984. The college celebrated its 25th anniversary on the 5th of April on "Family Day" with a 25km run and a school fair. AJC has a staff strength of about 20 non-teaching staff, over 150 teachers, and 10 Heads of Department. [edit] Information[edit] CrestThe college crest is formed from the initials of the College. The letter A, in the form of a yellow flame, symbolises the vitality and youthful aspirations of the students. The dark blue letters, J and C, supporting the flame, symbolise college support for the individual in his efforts to realise his ambition. The four circles at the base depict racial harmony, highlighting the college motto. The crest was designed by Heng Eng Hwa in 1984. [edit] MottoThe college motto, Non Mihi Solum, is a Latin expression meaning 'not for myself alone'. [edit] UniformFor boys - a grey shirt with navy blue pants. For girls - a grey shirt with a navy blue skirt. The college collar pin is worn on the left collar of shirt. The college tie is worn on Wednesdays, and during formal occasions. The tie is dark blue with diagonal stripes of the school crest. Blazers are only worn on special occasions. Attire for Physical Education (PE) includes a shirt with the top half in blue and bottom half in yellow. Shorts also bear the school initials AJC. [edit] CCA achievementsThe Basketball team has enjoyed success ever since its inception in the mid-1980s, and has established itself as one of the powerhouses in the Singapore National 'A' Division Basketball Championship. The boys' team achieved a historical three-peat, winning the championship in 1987,1988, and 1989. It finished in the national top four for ten consecutive years from 1999 to 2008, with two finals appearances in 2006 and 2008. [1] The Volleyball Team has also been one of the most dominant in 'A' Division competition. The boys' team won the Championship in 2006, and made a finals appearance alongside the girls' team in 2007. Both teams came in 4th in the 'A' Division Championship for 2008. The Wushu Team has a history of coming up in the top four positions for the National Inter-School Wushu Championships. In 2008, the Boys team came in 3rd while the Girls team came in 4th. The StAJeWorks, the school's English drama performance group, won the Gold award in the 2008 Singapore Youth Festival Central Judging. The Chinese Orchestra performs under the guidance of its conductor Mr Ng Seng Hong. The year 2007 marks its 4th consecutive year clinching its SYF Gold Medal. The Chinese Orchestra has obtained a SYF Gold with Honours award in 2009. The Anderson Junior College Choir is headed by conductor Mr. Nelson Kwei.At the 10th Concorso Corale Internazionale in Riva Del Garda, Italy, where the Choir was crowned the Grand Champion and won the Public Prize Award, Category Champion (Mixed Youth Choirs, the Conductors Prize and a Gold Diploma V. The Choir has also obtained a Gold with Honours in the SYF 2009 Central Judging The Anderson Junior College Symphonic Band claimed 2nd place for the NBC Open Category in 2008 and the Gold with Honours for the 2009 Central Judging The Debating and Oratorical Society(DOS) has been ranked in the top eight schools since 2007 in the core national debating championships (MOE Invitational Debating Champsionship, formerly known has JCDCs).
