Amniotic stem cells are multipotent stem cells extracted from amniotic fluid. In fact amniotic fluid contains a considerable quantity of stem cells [1], that are multipotent and able to differentiate into various tissues and are useful for future human applications. Amniotic stem cells can differentiate into various types tissue as nerve, muscle, bone, and all other human cells: so are pluripotent like embryonic stem cells. All over the world, universities and research institutes are studying amniotic fluid to discover all the qualities of amniotic stem cells, and scientist such as Anthony Atala[2], Paolo De Coppi [3] and Giuseppe Simoni [4][5]have discovered important results.
[edit] Ethical aspectFrom an ethical point of view, stem cells from amniotic fluid can solve a lot of problems. First, because it's possible to catch amniotic stem cells without destroying embryos, and second because they are not necessary to choose an alternative between donor or autologuous use.
