"American Dreamers" is the fourth episode in the first season of the American crime drama CSI: NY. The episode first aired on October 6, 2004. [edit] PlotA decade-old skeleton is found on a tour bus with a backpack. The backpack contents lead to an Aaron Moreland, who has been missing since the early 1990s and possibly killed during the 1990's crack epidemic when New York City's crime rate spiked significantly. When his parents arrive from Minnesota to identify him, they identify his rucksack and a pocket knife. But when they see the image that has been created, using facial reconstruction on skull, they say it is not their son. After visiting a drop-in center for homeless teenagers, the team draws a blank. But then Mac uses forensic techniques on a pawn shop ticket recovered from the backpack. It reveals the owner pawned a watch. However, after getting to the shop, he finds out that it has suddenly been claimed after 17 years. Later, CCTV footage in the pawn shop shows a man enter and reclaim the watch. However he keeps his cap down low to hide his face. But before he leaves he touches a guitar. DNA is recovered from the strings. It matches one of the youth workers at the drop-in center. Under questioning the man reveals that he is Aaron Moreland. He came to New York to be a musician from a small "town with only one intersection". However shortly after arriving he was unable to cope and became addicted to drugs. He met the victim several times and sold him all his possessions including his pen knife and back pack. One day he was so desperate for money he gave up the pawn ticket for his watch but when this didn't yield enough cash, he killed the young man with a pole. Flack observed that he murdered him for "being short two bucks". Moreland later entered rehab, turned his back on his past and went to work at the drop-in center. Nevertheless he has to be charged for first-degree murder by the law. Moreland's parents look on as their son is led away. Their faces tell of the sadness and heartbreak that in finding their son, they now know he is also a killer. Mac and Stella conclude the episode by lamenting that the identity of young man will never be known. [edit] See also[edit] External links
