[edit] Controversy

[edit] From Sisunga to Legend 2009

Controversy erupted the week of April 6, 2009, when pages for the upcoming yearbook were part of an online preview.[1] A few ALHS alumni, who double as current staff members, did not hesitate to criticize the yearbook name revision, from Sisunga to Legend; emails ensued, proclaiming the blatant disregard and disrespect for tradition at ALHS.

As a student-run publication, the yearbook staff of 2008-2009 had decided upon the change in the beginning of the school year, due to the lack of association with the word Sisunga, an Indian term believed to mean "place of the spirit", by current and recent student generations. They chose Legend as the worthy replacement, noting its dictionary definition as a timeless collection of stories and connotation as an imprinted success.

Due to the volume of criticisms, and administrative advice, the yearbook staff retracted the title modification, effective April 14, 2009.[1]

[edit] Sports

  • The Wrestling team is most noted for its 25 league titles[citation needed]
  • 5 California Interscholastic Federation championships (Two each for football and wrestling and one for Girl's Cross Country)[citation needed]
  • Competition in State and National competitions.[citation needed]
  • The extensive choir program has won many national awards and produces many professional singers.
  • 1st Baseline League title in the schools history for golf in 2008 with only one loss. 2nd Baseline League title followed quickly in 2009.
  • 1st Baseline League title in baseball (co-champions with Upland High School) in 2009.

[edit] Additional Information

With funding received from state bonds, expansion work was done between 1998–2001, adding on a new Math and Science building, a new dance studio, weight rooms and a new library, along with renovation work on various sites around the campus. The school's football team plays its home games at Chaffey College's Grisgby Field, where graduation ceremonies are also held.

Between 2007-2008, facility adjustments were made, most notably the repainting of the school mascot upon the face of the large gym and the addition of surveillance cameras.
