All work and no play makes Paddy a dull boy is an Irish proverb largely synonymous to the more well known English proverb "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy" that was made famous in Stanley Kubrick's iconic horror movie The Shining. While it may have originally been used in Ireland in a fashion similar to the English version, this saying took on a distinct derogatory meaning during the persecution of Irish Americans in the mid-1800s.[1] [edit] See also[edit] References
