Alexandria International Airport or El Nouzha Airport (Arabic:مطار الإسكندرية الدولي) (IATA: ALY, ICAO: HEAX) is a public airport located in Alexandria, Egypt, 7 km southeast of the city center.

It serves regional destinations in Egypt and other Arab countries, as well as Athens. Alexandria is also served by Borg El Arab Airport.

EgyptAir (and subsidiary EgyptAir Express) is the largest airline at the airport, operating over 50 weekly domestic and regional flights with a mixture of Airbus A320-200s and Embraer E-170s.

In 2008, the airport served 1,162,987 passengers (+46.3% vs. 2007).

Due to the length of the runways, the largest aircraft operating into the airport are the Airbus A320-200 (most common type), Boeing 737-800 and McDonnell Douglas MD-90-30.

The airport will be closed to commercial operations in December 2009 and all traffic transferred to Borg El Arab Airport (see 'Future Operations' below).

El Nouzha Airport has two runways:

• Runway 04/22: 2,201 x 45 m (7,221 x 148 ft), Surface: Asphalt
• Runway 18/36: 1,801 x 30 m (5,909 x 98 ft), Surface: Asphalt

[edit] Future Operations

Due to the ageing airport facilities and building violations in the area the future of El Nouzha airport is limited. With the development of the newer, more modern facility at Borg El Arab Airport (40km southwest of Alexandria) El Nouzha airport is expected to close to commercial aviation operations with all airlines transferring to the newer airport. This is expected to occur by December 2009 when the new terminal at Borg El Arab Airport is completed.
