[edit] Junior Career

She started playing tennis at the age of five. As a junior player, she won the prestigious Easter Bowl title in the Girls 14s and Girls 18s divisions and the Orange Bowl in the Girls 16s division in 2004. She achieved a World Junior Ranking of #5 in 2005, advancing to the 2005 US Open (tennis) Finals in both singles and doubles. She represented the United States in numerous international competitions including Junior Fed Cup.

[edit] Professional Career

Glatch turned professional in 2005 and in that year reached the semifinals of the Forest Hills Tennis Classic and the second round of the US Open. She was in an accident in November 2005; her injuries included a broken right wrist and left elbow. It took her eight months until she could start regularly playing competitive tennis again. Her ranking dropped significantly as a result.

In 2007 she won the Southlake $25,000 USTA Pro Circuit event for her second career pro title and reached the quarterfinals of the Washington D.C. $75,000 USTA Pro Circuit event. She was a finalist at the French Open Grand Slam Junior Doubles with partner Sorana Cîrstea of Romania. She also reached the quarterfinals of three $50,000 events. In 2008, Glatch reached the quarterfinals of the Dothan $75,000 USTA Pro Circuit event, was a finalist at the Carson $50,000 event, and was the singles champion at both the Toronto and Saguenay $50,000 events. She was 1 of only 3 American women to qualify for the US Open Women's Main Draw. She also had two semifinal finishes in doubles and won the doubles title at the $50,000 San Diego Pro Circuit tournament.

In 2009, Alexa has 6 wins over Top 50 players and is 2-0 in Fed Cup singles competition.

She reached the third round of the Premier $4.5 Million Indian Wells WTA Tour Event as a wildcard; one of her wins was against World No. 29 Carla Suarez Navarro. At the Premier WTA Tour Event in Miami, Alexa advanced to the 2nd round before losing to #1 seed Serena Williams 6-2, 6-3. She made her Fed Cup debut in April in the semifinals against the Czech Republic. As a rookie, she was dubbed the MVP for keeping the US alive by pulling off upset wins in both of her singles matches against No. 29 Iveta Benesova and No. 48 Petra Kvitova in dominating, straight sets fashion. Her team won the deciding doubles match and the U.S. will have a chance to take home the Fed Cup Championship Trophy for the first time since 2000 when they compete against Italy in the finals in November.

In May, Alexa made her French Open red clay debut by crushing the 14th-seeded Italian clay court specialist Flavia Pennetta 6-1, 6-1 in the first round. To date this is the biggest win in her career.

[edit] Personal Life

Some of her favorite tennis players include Steffi Graf and Roger Federer. She is represented by Octagon and endorses Nike sportswear and footwear and Babolat rackets.

Alexa's home is in Newport Beach, California and she enjoys surfing and skimboarding with friends when she's home. She has 4 cats (1 Maine Coon, 1 Persian, and 2 Ragdolls) and a dog (Labrador Retriever).
