[edit] Storylines

Peter and his twin sister Lucy were born to Ian and Cindy Beale on 9 December 1993. He was named after his paternal grandfather, Pete Beale, who died on the day of his birth. Peter was brought up by both his parents until 1996, when Cindy absconded with him and his half brother Steven following her failed attempt to have Ian killed by a hitman. Peter was taken to Italy, where Ian found him in 1997 and brought him home without Cindy's consent. Cindy was given custody of all three children in 1998, but she was arrested directly after the court case for the attempted murder of Ian. She died during childbirth in prison, but her baby, Cindy, survived and was given to her maternal aunt Gina. Peter then grew up with various women acting as his stepmother, one of whom, Laura, provided Peter with another half brother, Bobby, in 2003. Peter was injured in a fair ground collapse in 2004 but was saved from the reckage by Den Watts and Dennis Rickman. Ian met his fourth wife, Jane, at this fair.

In May 2007, Ian and Peter went camping with Phil Mitchell and his son Ben. After Phil accidentally burnt his tent down, the group decided to drive home, but whilst arguing with Ian, Phil took his eyes off the road and swerved to avoid a fallen tree; the car flipped, crashed and rolled into a lake with Ben and Peter still inside. Ben was conscious however Peter was knocked out in the crash. As the car sank and filled with water, Phil went into to rescue the boys; however, Peter's foot got caught on a seatbelt, he passed out and nearly drowned, but was saved by CPR from Phil.

A budding athlete, Peter's PE teacher told Ian that Peter could compete in the 2012 Olympics. Keen for Peter to succeed in this, Ian began to pressurise Peter to train hard, and was unhappy when Peter became distracted by his girlfriend Lauren Branning, who Peter began dating in December 2007. Lauren's father Max was equally displeased, especially when he caught Peter and Lauren playing truant and drinking alcohol.

Peter was cast as Romeo in a school production of Romeo and Juliet in September 2008, while Whitney Dean was cast as Juliet. Whitney's stepfather, Tony King, who was secretly in a sexual relationship with her, was opposed to them acting together and punched Peter in the face during their rehearsal. When Lucy found out who caused Peter's bruises she confronted Tony and threatened to call the police, but Whitney persuaded her not to. Lauren disliked Peter spending time with Whitney, and Peter ended the relationship in October 2008 after Max ordered him to. When Max saw Lauren and Peter together in the cafe, Peter tried to stand up to him, but in his anger Max grabbed Peter and throttled him. Peter subsequently revealed to Lauren that her dad was behind their breakup, leading Lauren to attempt to kill Max. Peter later gave his evidence in court. He stated that when Lauren left his house, she was upset and angry. When Lauren returned home (after the jury decided that she wasn't guilty for attempting to murder her father), Peter settled his differences with Max and declared his love for Lauren.[2]

However a few months later Lauren's parents Max and Tanya had re-united (they had split when Max's affair with Stacey Slater was revealed) and invited some friends round for lunch. To get Peter and Lauren out of the way Max said if they washed his car he would pay for their lunch out. When they were washing the car however, Peter found an earring that didn't look like Tanya's. Lauren handed it to Tanya and they both assumed that Max was having an affair. However the pair later discovered it was Whitney Dean's, having left it there when she and her brother Ryan Malloy joyrided in Max's car.

After being teased by Jay Brown, who boasted he nearly had sex with Sam Mitchell, Peter tried to look impressive by lying that he and Lauren had sex in the allotments, Jay and Lucy quickly spread this rumor around school and Lauren broke up with Peter. Max was furious the find out that Peter had said these things about Lauren and attempted to punch Peter. Peter and Lauren recolined and Lauren told Peter she was ready to have sex. For a week the Beales and Brannings swapped wives ; meaning Peter was living with Lauren's mother Tanya, Tanya found the condoms Peter and Lauren were using for sex and Lauren's older brother Bradley overheard Peter talking about it. The next day, Lauren and Peter tried to see each other without Max finding out, but fail to hide it. Peter tells Max that he loves Lauren and Max finally accepts it.

In November 2009, Jane left the family causing Peter to lose his fourth 'mother' (after Laura, Melanie and his biological mother Cindy).
