Alcaidesa is a residential and commercial seaside resort near Sotogrande, Spain (within the municipalities of La Línea de la Concepción and San Roque), in the Andalusian province of Cádiz. The resort was developed pursuant to a joint venture agreement between Costain PLC (a British company) and Banesto Bank.[1] Construction originally started in the 1990s. Alcaidesa Inmobiliaria (the Costain/Banesto joint venture company) owns the land and various developers have completed, and are in the process of completing, the building developments. Many buildings are still under construction. The golf course is said to be the only links course in Spain. The village contains a couple of hotels. One exclusively serves the German market (Aldiana). The beach is linked to the beach in la Linea therefore it is possible to see Gibraltar (a British overseas territory) Alcaidesa is only partially developed in accordance with its development plan. It no longer offers a retail outlet as the Dragonfly Bar has been extended and therefore more seating is available inside, but a further mall is in the process of construction. The German Hotel (Aldiana) dominates the small urbanization and is probably the main source of income of the area. Currently there is only 1 restaurant/bar in the village, though there is a bar and restaurant on the beach in the Summer months. The permanent restaurant is located in the main square and offer seating both indoor and outdoor. The Dragonfly bar serves English and Spanish food and drinks as it has been refurbished. The beach bar has seating outside and is open throughout the day and evening and serves a mixture of meat and fish dishes. A shopping centre is being built, with many units to let already advertised, The commercial centre is almost complete now and is expected to open during the summer,so far there is going to be a super market. A fire station exclusively serving the village was built in 2008. [edit] References
