Alan M. Barrett is a Research Professor at the Economic and Social Research Institute, Dublin, Ireland, where he coordinates the research programme on migration. He is a Research Fellow of the Institute for the Study of Labor, and a regular lecturer at Trinity College, Dublin. He obtained his PhD at Michigan State University.

Barrett specialises in labour economics, migration, and environmental economics. He is best known, however, for his work on short-term forecasts of the Irish economy. Barrett is the lead author and editor of the Quarterly Economic Commentary, and as such appears regularly in the media.^{[1][2][3][4][5][6][7]}
