Al Beroni or Al Beruni University (Persian: دانشگاه البیرونی, Pashto: البیرونی پوهنتون) is a public university in Afghanistan. It was established in 1998 by Ahmad Shah Massoud. The university is named after Abū Rayḥān Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad Bīrūnī (Persian: ابوریحان محمد بن احمد بیرونی), a renowned polymath scholar who lived in 11th century Khorasan. Al Beruni University is located next to Gulbahar Textile Company in the Kohistan district of Kapisa Province, 70 miles north of Kabul. Over 1,500 students are enrolled in the university. The current chancellor is Rashid Khan Aziz Kohistani. The university has seven departments:
