AirDC (styled as airDC) was a proposed airline based in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo. It would fly scheduled services within the Democratic Republic of the Congo and neighbouring countries[1][2]. On 15 December 2009, the project was officially cancelled because of disagreements between the two shareholders: Brussels Airlines and Hewa Bora Airways.

[edit] History

The airline was founded by Hewa Bora Airways and Brussels Airlines. First flight was foreseen to be in the end of July 2008. All maintenance facilities at N'Djili airport have been prepared in August 2008. The maintenance of the aircraft of AirDC will be in hand of Brussels Airlines, to ensure that AirDC will not appear on the European blacklist of banned carriers.

Hewa Bora Airways owned 51% of the shares in the airline, Brussels Airlines the remaining 49% through its Mauritius based subsidiary Pan African Airlines Leasing Company Ltd which was to operate the aircraft for AirDC.

The name chosen was a reference to the country's abbreviated french name: "République démocratique du Congo" (RDC).

On 24 April 2008, AirDC announced they intended to proceed despite the loss of an HBA DC-9 on 15 April.[3]

In July 2008, it appeared the project for creating this new airline had been delayed. The Congolese government did not give the required autorizations to start the new airline. It was rumored that the crisis between Congolese and Belgian government and the recent agreement between the Congolese government and RAK Airways for a new airline "killed" prematurely AirDC.

The AirDC project was officially canceled on 15 December 2009 : Brussels Airlines is to launch a new airline called "Korongo" (working name) which will be based in Lubumbashi. This project is a joint-venture between Brussels Airlines and a Belgian local enterprise, with full-support from Lufthansa.

[edit] Fleet

The AirDC fleet included the following aircraft (at May 2009):[4]

AirDC Fleet

BAe 146-200 2 Etoile/Favorite Stored
Delivered on 1 September 2008

Those airframes are to be transfered to "Korongo", plus a Boeing 737-300.
