Aerostar S.A., is an aeronautical company based in Bacău, Romania.
[edit] HistorySince its establishment in 1953, the name changed in turn from U.R.A. into I.R.Av, I.Av. and finally Aerostar, subordinated in turn to the Ministry of Armed Forces, Air Defence Headquarters, General Industrial Direction of the Army, then to the Ministry of Machine Building Industry as part of the Central Department for Fine Mechanics and Aeronautical Industry, of Bucharest Aeronautical Group or of the National Centre of the Romanian Aeronautical industry. Aerostar supplied the repair and maintenance for all the types of aircraft in the inventory of the Romanian army. Aerostar is the matrix where the twin-engine, close support, ground attack and tactical reconnaissance IAR-93 "Vultur" (Eagle) prototype aircraft was made, the first fighter plane built in Romania after World War II. Upgraded versions of MiG-21 (MiG-21 LanceR) and MiG-29 (MiG-29 Sniper) were developed by Aerostar in co-operation with Elbit Systems.[1] During the time, more than 1800 Yak-52 aircrafts have been produced in three versions - IAK-52, IAK-52W and IAK-52TW. Aerostar also developed its own program for civil airplanes for aerobatics and sport aviation which includes the manufacturing of Festival, an aircraft internationally certified as Light-sport aircraft and Ultralight aircraft.[2] [edit] See also[edit] References[edit] External links
