Colrat was appointed High Commissioner of the Republic in French Polynesia by the Sarkozy government in June 2008.[1] His predecessor, Anne Bouquet, departed French Polynesia on June 29, 2008, after serving three years as the first female High Commissioner.[2] He arrived in French Polynesia with his wife on Saturday night of July 5, 2008, to assume his position as High Commissioner.[1][2] Colrat was greeted at the Faa'a International Airport in Papeete by French Polynesian President Gaston Tong Sang, members of the Assembly of French Polynesia and other local Tahitian-based politicians.[1] His welcoming ceremony included traditional Tahitian singers and tamure dancers and a presentation of garlands made from tiare flowers.[1] Colrat called the welcoming ceremony unforgettable and that he enjoyed "the moment of hospitality and friendship."[2] Noticeably absent from Colrat's airport welcoming ceremony were two former Presidents of French Polynesia, Gaston Flosse, a French Senator, and Oscar Temaru, the leader of the pro-independence party, Tavini Huiraatira.[1] President Tong Sang called their absences at the ceremony "regrettable."[1] However, Oscar Temaru scheduled a meeting on July 7, 2008, after Colrat became High Commissioner.[2] Adolphe Colrat was officially sworn in as High Commissioner of the Republic in French Polynesia on Monday, July 7, 2008 when he was 53 years old.[2] Colrat and his wife left both of their children behind in Paris, as they are both French students.[2] [edit] References
