The Indian Pacific at the Adelaide Parklands Terminal The Adelaide Parklands Terminal is the interstate railway station for Adelaide, South Australia. It is located in the suburb of Keswick immediately west of the southern part of the West Parklands. It is adjacent to and accessible by overpass from Keswick railway station, in the suburban railway network. The station was known from opening as Keswick Rail Terminal, being renamed in June 2008.[1] The area is officially classified as a suburb, in the City of West Torrens, and as such is referred to as Keswick Terminal.[2] Its postcode is 5035. The terminal was built in 1984 as a dedicated long-haul station when Adelaide Railway Station was redeveloped for suburban trains. Adelaide Station is a terminus station, so any through trains must reverse. This is much easier for suburban railcars than for locomotive-hauled long-distance trains. Since 1990 there have been no regional passenger services in South Australia, so the terminal serves only the The Overland to Melbourne, The Ghan to Alice Springs and Darwin, and the Indian Pacific to both Sydney and Perth, all standard gauge. Connection to Adelaide Suburban services (Operated by TransAdelaide), is available via an overpass to the adjacent Keswick railway station. [edit] References
