[edit] History

The park originally opened in 1983 and was simply known as 53rd Street Park. The facility was rarely used and suffered from over two decades of neglect. In 2004, then Palm Beach County District-7 Commissioner, Addie L. Greene, budgeted funds from the county to refurbish the park by building a public restroom, a picnic/event pavilion and upgrading the playground equipment and youth ball field.

In July of 2008, the Town Council decided to officially name the park after Greene. This was due in large part to her many contributions to both the park and the town’s citizen’s throughout her years as a Mangonia Park Council Member, Florida House of Representative and eventual Palm Beach County Commissioner in District-7.

[edit] Recreational Activities

The park has such amenities as a walking trail, public rest rooms, 1.5 acres of picnic area (Willie J. Thomas, Sr. Picnic Grounds), a youth ball field (Jackie Robinson Field), a 450 square foot covered picnic/event center (Clarence R. McConnell Pavilion), children’s playground, two (2) racquetball courts, and one asphalt basketball court (Floyd Andrews Court).

[edit] Annual Event(s)

The park is home to the Annual Mangonia Park Community Heritage Festival held each summer and sponsored by the Town of Mangonia Park. The event features exhibits and displays by the various support divisions of the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, West Palm Beach Fire-Rescue, Kauff’s Towing, other local vendors, food, refreshments, music, and activities for children.

The Palm Beach Mariners, an adult amateur American minor league football team, trains and practices at Jackie Robinson Youth Ball Field from September through May.
