[edit] History

The university is an outgrowth of a Post-Graduate Centre of Andhra University, which was established in 1967 at Nallapadu area of Guntur and then relocated to Nambur/Kaza area on the east of the city. The Centre gained affiliating university status in 1976, and opened with ten post-graduate courses. The university is named after Acharya Nagarjuna, the pro-founder of the Madhyamaka path of Mahayana Buddhism.

[edit] Campus

In addition to its main campus, the university also maintains two post-graduate centres in Nuzvid, Krishna District and Ongole, Prakasam District. A total of 44 courses are offered at the three locations. The university affiliates the post-graduate programmes of 292 Colleges/Institutes in Guntur, Krishna, Prakasam and other districts of Andhra Pradesh. Acharya Nagarjuna University offers a special MBA programme that meets the current industry standards, following signing of partner programs deal with Central Michigan University

  • Exchange Programs

The university is also most notably known for its international exchange programs. Various seminars and symposia takes place within the university to promote international education and research activities on a regular basis.

[edit] College of Engineering

ANU is one of the very very few Universities any where in the world that doesn't have its own "Engineering College", especially true when compared to top ranked Indian Universities.

A new college for engineering and technology is currently being setup in the main campus of the University [1]. This is one of many engineering colleges in the Guntur region, but the first one to be managed completely by the Government. AICTE has visited the campus and completed the inspection to award grants and other recognition purposes to asses if it meets the minimum criteria. Some colleges are known to be just degree mills, world over, in the absence of a governing body or due to lack of enforcement of regulations.
