[edit] Info

Born in December 1976, Wahhab is no stranger to Iraqi fans. He made his name as a midfield prodigy with Al Talaba and, having honed his creative craft with the Bagdad-based Iraqi giants, began a decade-long overseas odyssey, switching between Lebanese club Al Ikhaa Al Ahli and Al Shaab of UAE before going on to play for Iranian outfits Esteghlal and Sepahan, his current club.

At international level, he featured prominently in Iraq's qualifying campaign for the 2002 FIFA World Cup Korea/Japan under then coach Rudolf Belin. His passing skills also impressed Olympic coach Adnan Hamad, who called the midfielder into his squad for Athens 2004. It didn't take Wahhab too long to repay the coach's faith either, with his performances key to Iraq reaching the last four.

He was not selected in Iraq's title-winning 2007 AFC Asian Cup squad as the national authorities stayed faithful to players from the former youth team that had won the 2000 AFC U19 Championship. Despite missing out on his nation's moment of glory, however, he is keen to once again showcase his abilities at the global stage at the FIFA Confederations Cup.
